Traveling brings with it many different and difficult circumstances. There is a new language, that proves to be a difficult barrier to many and there is a totally new culture. Working through these disadvantages for a tourist can be pretty challenging but rewarding when done. One of the toughest things a tourist has to work through is…food! If you are from the United States, you are going to have a much different perspective on what tastes good then say the European restaurant you are at! There are a few tricks of the trade to finding good restaurants abroad- you just need to be aware of them!
Here is a quick man’s guide to finding a great restaurant in an area where you don’t know the language or the culture!
Ask a local person! This is the most basic of suggestions but is often the most effective. Most local people would be glad to assist you with finding a quality restaurant. If you can, find a local who speaks your language at least a little bit and they should be able to comprehend what you are looking for! Locals know the good restaurants, the poor restaurants and the ones that will make you sick!
Look for popularity! Now this tip doesn’t take a lot of time or a lot of knowledge, just observation! If you are in a city where there are streets full of restaurants and shops, just merely see which ones have the longest lines when dinner time rolls around! Chances are the restaurant with the longest line is going to have at least half way decent food!
Research your area! The internet has opened up many different options when it comes to researching a specific area for restaurants. Not only can you find out how far the restaurant is from your hotel or accommodation, but you can find reviews from other people who have eaten there! Yahoo! and Google offer some of the best restaurant guides online for your convenience; so if you’re looking at a specific area, look on the internet first! Another form of researching is asking your travel agent. Often your agent will have at least a good sense of the restaurants in the area, if not first hand experience!
Finding the best restaurant for you when you are abroad doesn’t have to be impossible or stressful for your vacation- make it a fun part of the excitement that international traveling brings along with it! Follow the tips above to get the restaurant that has your tastes and preferences in mind!

No frills airlines have been running successfully for nearly two decades. However, for every successful low cost carrier, there are ten that go out of business. So how do cheap flight operators make their money? Low cost airlines make their money on routes where there is very little or no competition. So if you are looking for cheap flights, particularly if you want to just get away to a new destination for a weekend break, you would do well to check out routes where there is a lot of competition between airlines.
Sometimes an airline will open up a route in direct competition with another airline. When this is the case, a price war ensues where both airlines will actually be losing money on the route. You can be pretty sure that you will get a good deal on cheap flights if this is the case.
Cheap Flights from the Low Cost Airline or the Booking Agent?
Cheap flights are usually available from the web sites of no frills airlines. Booking agents will often feature cheap flights too. However, the low cost carriers often discourage the outsourcing of flight details to booking agents, who often operate on commission. You may feel that you are getting a good deal from an agent, but the cheap flight might be an even cheaper flight on the airliner’s own web site.
Letting the Web Site do the Work in Finding Cheap Flights
Other sites – aggregators – yield great deals for the savvy consumer. These sites trawl the Internet for special offers and good deals on flights from various airlines and other sources. These sites usually do not operate on commission but rely instead on advertising and deals with hotels or car rental companies to pay for their site. The software used to collate data and process it may not always work – even human error can result in an inability to spot a great deal that’s just been announced by an airline.
What if you just “Show up” at the Airport?
There’s nothing stopping you from simply showing up at the airport and asking about any last minute deals on cheap flights. But this always carries a risk as the airline staff may consider you a captive audience with little choice other than to take the flight. Anecdotal evidence has shown that travelers may receive one quote for cheap flights from check in staff and a cheaper ticket for the same flight over the Internet after going online and doing a quick check via a computer terminal in the airport!
Cut Down on Costs on your Cheap Flight
There are punitive measures in place to cover the costs of fuel and various other surcharges incurred on airlines. Extra baggage will therefore cost money. If you are going on a weekend break, an overnight bag should be your only luggage if at all possible. Typical baggage charges may include a check in charge. You should look carefully at all the extra add-ons that may be incurred by an airline before booking a cheap flight.
While there are no hard and fast ways to get cheap flights, exploring all your options is a surefire way to get the best possible deal.

Being Flexible Can Save You Money on Your FlightsIf you are willing to fly to South Africa on a Tuesday or Wednesday you have a better chance of finding cheap flights to Cape Town or cheap flights to Johannesburg. Airlines generally offer the more discounted airfares to South Africa in the middle of the week rather than over weekends. This is simply a matter of supply and demand. Most people want to fly over weekends or on Friday or Monday. In Low Season Fly Into Cape Town Then Get A Cheap Local Flight Most airlines that fly to South Africa have Johannesburg flights, not flights to Cape Town. Johannesburg is South Africa’s business capital and by far the largest city with the busiest airport. To keep their airport slots in Cape Town (which is a booming airport in high season) the airlines have to fly to Cape Town in the off season even when traffic is a lot less. Yes, they cut back the number of flights but even then there is sometimes more supply than demand. So compare the airfares for Johannesburg to the airfares to Cape Town – then look at domestic airlines in South Africa to get you cheap airfares between those two cities or to get to Kruger for an African safari. Low season in Cape Town (May to August) is a great time for wildlife safaris in the northern part of South Africa.
